ASTQB puts Foundation Level preparation at approximately three to four weeks, studying two to three hours per day using free materials. You do not need to purchase a course to prepare. If you want a practical study plan, read How to Pass ISTQB Foundation Level. However, if you prefer structured instruction, ASTQB-accredited training providers offer courses specifically designed around the ISTQB syllabus.

Expert Level requires Foundation and Advanced Level certifications, plus a minimum of five years of testing experience. Expert Level certifications expire after seven years and require recertification, unlike Foundation and Advanced Level certifications which are valid for life.
