ISTQB Foundation Level in South Africa

Foundation Level is the starting point for most testers and the credential most frequently cited in South African QA job postings. The current version, CTFL v4.0.1 (updated in 2023), reflects how software is built today: agile delivery, DevOps pipelines, continuous testing, and shift-left principles.

The exam is 40 multiple-choice questions. Standard time is 60 minutes. The pass mark is 65%, which works out to 26 correct answers out of 40. If English is not your first language, you can request 25% extended time at no extra charge. There are no prerequisites of any kind. Foundation Level is open to anyone, whether you're already working in QA, transitioning from development, or entering the field fresh.

Foundation Level certification is valid for life. There is no expiry date and no renewal requirement for CTFL.
